Des-n-octanoyl-[Ser3]-ghrelin (DOG) is an analog of ghrelin. It has been shown to reduce food intake in rats and humans. DOG reduces the amount of ghrelin that is released from the stomach, which leads to a reduction in appetite. The mechanism by which this occurs is not clear, but it may be related to its effect on neurons in the hypothalamus or other parts of the brain that regulate feeding behavior. DOG also has effects on cells in the pancreas, liver, and adipose tissue that are involved in regulating blood glucose levels and energy metabolism.
