Corchoionol C is a diterpene glycoside that belongs to the group of saponins. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in vitro and in vivo, as well as inhibit their migration, invasion, and metastasis. Corchoionol C has been shown to induce apoptosis in cancer cells by activating the caspase-3/7 pathways. This compound also acts as an antimicrobial agent against bacteria and fungi. Corchoionol C has been shown to have cytotoxic effects on mcf-7 cells at concentrations of 10 µg/mL or less. The molecular weight of this compound was found to be 648 g/mol by mass spectrometric analysis. The chemical structure was determined by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and found to contain a furan ring with one hydroxyl group.
