The frequency of this compound's infrared absorption band has been found to shift from 3400 cm-1 to 3300 cm-1 when it is hydrated. 5-Bromo-2-hydroxypyrimidine interacts with cytosine deaminase and forms uracil, which is an intermediate in RNA synthesis.
