- Fluralaner
Fluralaner is a novel veterinary drug that is effective against fleas and ticks. It has shown potent activity against both adult and immature fleas and ticks, as well as repelling some ticks in the larval stage. Fluralaner's pharmacokinetic properties have been characterized in dogs, cats, and ferrets, with high concentrations of fluralaner found in the skin and hair follicles. The clinical relevance of this drug has been studied using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) methods to detect the presence of flea DNA in blood samples from treated animals. Fluralaner inhibits the activity of GABA-gated chloride channels by binding to their active site. This results in an increased influx of chloride ions into cells, which causes hyperpolarization and subsequent paralysis and death. Fluralaner also binds to the ryanodine receptor (RYR), preventing channel opening, leading to muscle paralysis due to a lack of calcium release from sarcoplasmic
