Dilithium tetrachlorocopper(II), 0.1M TFA solution, is a soluble chloride that is used as a catalyst in organic reactions. Dilithium tetrachlorocopper(II) is mainly used for the synthesis of Grignard reagents, which are prepared from alkyl halides and magnesium metal. The reaction with magnesium yields a Grignard reagent, which can be reacted with other reactants to produce the desired product.
Grignard reagents are mainly used to form carbon-carbon bonds, such as in the production of butylbenzene from butyl bromide and magnesium metal.
