N-(4-Bromophenyl)phthalimide is a hypocholesterolemic agent that inhibits the synthesis of cholesterol. The drug has been shown to be effective against hypercholesterolemia in rats and rabbits. N-(4-Bromophenyl)phthalimide is also a potent antiinflammatory agent and can be used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, gout, and other inflammatory conditions. It is less toxic than aspirin and has been shown to have an acute toxicity level of 2000 mg/kg in rats. In humans, the effective dose is between 15-30 mg/day.
