Cis-9,10-epoxy-12(Z)-octadecenoic acid is an analog of the endogenous fatty acid linoleic acid. It has been shown to have potent anticancer properties by inducing apoptosis in cancer cells. Cis-9,10-epoxy-12(Z)-octadecenoic acid inhibits kinases and elastase, which are enzymes involved in cancer cell growth and metastasis. This compound has also been shown to be a potent inhibitor of etomidate-induced anesthesia, making it a potential therapeutic agent for anesthesia reversal. Cis-9,10-epoxy-12(Z)-octadecenoic acid has been isolated from human urine and Chinese medicinal herbs and may have potential as a novel anticancer drug.
