3-Bromo-1-(p-toluenesulfonyl)indole is a reagent used in the synthesis of azaindoles. This compound is an intermediate in the synthesis of 7-azaindole, which has biological activity. 3-Bromo-1-(p-toluenesulfonyl)indole can be prepared by reacting bromides with indoles in the presence of a base. It can also be synthesized from 3-bromobenzaldehyde and pyridine using a three step process. The product is stable and can be stored for long periods of time.
