Diiodo(p-cymene)ruthenium(II) dimer is a ligand that binds to the active site of cholinesterases, inhibiting their catalytic activity. This compound has shown inhibition of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BChE). Diiodo(p-cymene)ruthenium(II) dimer also inhibits the activity of other enzymes that contain an esteratic site, such as serine proteases and phospholipases. The structure of this ligand is similar to that of a ruthenium complex. Preclinical testing was conducted on rats with induced myasthenia gravis. A film preparation method was developed for x-ray diffraction studies. Diiodo(p-cymene)ruthenium(II) dimer has been shown to be effective in the treatment of cancer
