Dimethyl 2-iodoterephthalate is a polymer that is used in packaging. It can be used to make polyester, which is a polymerized form of terephthalic acid. Dimethyl 2-iodoterephthalate has been shown to inhibit the growth of tumour cells and to regulate the expression of histone deacetylase (HDAC) by binding to HDACs and inhibiting their function. This inhibition results in the increased expression of pro-apoptotic genes, leading to cell death.
