It has been shown that this drug inhibits the opening of ion channels in neuronal cells, leading to a decrease in the excitability of these cells. This drug also has been shown to inhibit the activity of an antibody against glutamic acid decarboxylase (GAD), which is an enzyme involved in gamma aminobutyric acid synthesis.
