Descrição:Tonapofylline is a pharmaceutical preparation that is used to treat glomerular filtration rate problems and hepatic impairment. It is also used for the treatment of pulmonary edema caused by congestive heart failure, myocardial infarction, or cirrhosis. Tonapofylline inhibits the adenosine receptors in the lungs, which blocks the inhibitory effects of adenosine on the airways. This improves lung function and reduces pulmonary edema. Tonapofylline has also been shown to reduce levels of urea nitrogen and creatinine in patients with cirrhosis and cancer. Tonapofylline may also be used for cancer prevention because it lowers the risk of myocardial infarcts in patients with coronary artery disease or congestive heart failure.
