3,6-Dihydroxybenzonorbornane is a diacid that is obtained from the thermal decomposition of 3,6-dihydroxybenzaldehyde. This product has been shown to be catalytic in reduction reactions and can be used as a monomer for the synthesis of polymers. It also shows high solubility in organic solvents and can be used as a solvent for other organic reactions. 3,6-Dihydroxybenzonorbornane can be prepared by cyclodehydration reaction between potassium carbonate and nitroalkanes. This process is carried out at temperatures ranging from 80°C to 250°C in an alkaline medium.
