8-Methyl-2,3,3a,4,5,6-hexahydro-1H-pyrazino[3,2,1-jk]carbazole HCl is a drug that inhibits the enzyme catecholamine o-methyltransferase (COMT). It has been shown to be effective in animal models of arthritis and bowel disease. 8-Methyl-2,3,3a,4,5,6-hexahydro-1H-pyrazino[3,2,1-jk]carbazole HCl also inhibits the inflammatory response by reducing the production of proinflammatory cytokines. Experimental studies have shown that this drug has a protective effect on neurons in the brain by preventing reactive oxygen species from damaging cells.
