It has been shown to have a broad spectrum of activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. 5-(Propan-2-yl)-1,3-thiazole has been used as an active ingredient in biocides, making it effective against both aerobic and anaerobic organisms. This compound has been shown to denature proteins and inhibit their enzymatic activity. 5-(Propan-2-yl)-1,3-thiazole also inhibits protein synthesis by binding to ribosomes at the site of mRNA translation. The minimal inhibitory concentration for this compound is not yet known.
