2-(4-Methylphenyl)thiophene is a linear compound that can be synthesized by coupling bromobenzene and styrene in the presence of catalysts such as palladium acetate, copper(II) acetate, and nickel(II) chloride. The polymerization reaction yields polystyrene with a particle size of less than 5 nanometers. 2-(4-Methylphenyl)thiophene is soluble in organic solvents, making it suitable for use in polymer chemistry. 2-(4-Methylphenyl)thiophene may also be used as a catalyst for the Suzuki coupling reaction to form other compounds.
