10-Bromoanthracene-9-boronic acid is a boronate ester that is used in supramolecular chemistry. It is made by reacting aryl boronic acids with an anthracene derivative, which results in the formation of a 10-bromoanthracene-9-boronic acid. This compound has been used to prepare metal complexes for optical sensing and catalysis. 10-Bromoanthracene-9-boronic acid has also been studied as a potential proton carrier for hydrogen fuel cells, due to its high solubility in organic solvents. The carbonyl group on the molecule can be deprotonated by strong bases and serve as a nucleophile in reactions with other functional groups, such as amides or boronic acids. 10-Bromoanthracene-9-boronic acid spontaneously forms an aromatic amide when reacted with ammonia or primary amines.
