10-Hydroxy aconitine is an alkaloid found in the Aconitum plant and is used as a pesticide. It can also be used to treat tumor diseases, with its main function being to inhibit protein synthesis. 10-Hydroxy aconitine binds to the ribosome of the cancerous cell, preventing RNA from being translated into protein. This leads to cell death by apoptosis or necrosis. The chemical structure of 10-Hydroxy aconitine was determined through nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and it was found that this n-oxide has a synergistic effect with other medicines such as korsemine, which is another medicine used for treatment of tumor diseases.
