Xanthiazone O-²-D-glucoside has been patented for use as a herbicide. It is a compound that can be found in the xanthium plant, which is also known as the cocklebur. Xanthiazone O-²-D-glucoside is a competitive inhibitor of choline and adenosine uptake in plants, which impairs their growth and development. This compound was found to inhibit the flow rate of caffeic acid in methanol extract, but not in acetonitrile extract. The uv detection wavelength was found to be 320 nm while the linear range was found to be 0.01-1 mg/ml. Xanthiazone O-²-D-glucoside has been applied as an herbicide for weed control on turfgrass and golf courses.
