MK-8776 is a potent inhibitor of the enzyme, protein kinase C (PKC). It was developed as an anticancer agent and has shown significant cytotoxicity against various cancer cell lines. MK-8776 can inhibit the cell factor, which is involved in checkpoint control of cell proliferation and differentiation. This drug also inhibits the ability of cancer cells to maintain their mitochondrial membrane potential, which leads to apoptosis. MK-8776 has been shown to be effective against hepatocyte-like cells and squamous carcinoma.
