Creatine riboside is a molecule that is synthesized from the amino acid, arginine. It is used to diagnose adrenocortical carcinoma and other types of cancer. Creatine riboside has been shown to be an effective prognostic marker for predicting the presence of adrenocortical carcinoma in patients. Creatine riboside can be found in urine samples, which can be analyzed using hydrophilic interaction chromatography (HILIC) to determine whether or not cancer is present. Creatine riboside has also been shown to bind to protein S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) and inhibit its activity with high affinity. This inhibition prevents the formation of methionine synthase, which converts homocysteine into methionine.
