1-(3-Hydroxynaphthalen-2-yl)ethanone is a methanol derivative that is used as an additive in biodiesel. It is typically added to diesel fuel to reduce the amount of particulate emissions. When 1-(3-hydroxynaphthalen-2-yl)ethanone is mixed with diesel fuel, it reacts with oxygen to produce carbon dioxide and water. The reaction also reduces the amount of particulate emissions, which are released when hydrocarbons in diesel fuel burn without sufficient oxygen. The detection of 1-(3-hydroxynaphthalen-2-yl)ethanone can be accomplished by using a fluorescent detection method or a ratiometric detection method.
