• Descrição: 3-Ethyl-3-methylheptane is an antimicrobial agent that has been shown to be effective against E. cloacae and other bacteria. It is a metabolite of the drug clofazimine, which inhibits bacterial growth by binding to DNA-dependent RNA polymerase, thereby preventing transcription and replication. 3-Ethyl-3-methylheptane also has been shown to have cancer treatment properties. It has been found that this compound is detectable in human serum and can be used for the diagnosis of cancer. 3-Ethyl-3-methylheptane is also used as a biomarker for wastewater treatment, where it can be detected in the effluent from sewage plants or septic tanks after biological treatment. The concentrations of this compound are measured using magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) and surface methodology such as solid phase microextraction (SPME).
