Cerium acetate sesquihydrate is a chemical compound that is used as a catalyst. It has been shown to be sensitive to the presence of analytes and can be used in electrochemical sensing and biosensors. Cerium oxide nanoparticles are produced through the reaction of cerium metal with an acid solution or alkali, which forms soluble cerium salts. The synthesis methods for these nanoparticles include sol-gel, hydrothermal, and ionic liquid routes. These nanoparticles have been shown to have a response time of less than 10 seconds and to be able to detect analytes at picomolar concentrations.
