5α-Dihydrotestosterone-β-glucuronide free acid (5α-DHTG) is a metabolite of 5α-dihydrotestosterone that is excreted in the urine. It is a potential marker of hepatic damage, and can be used to assess the risk of developing liver cancer. The level of 5α-DHTG in urine reflects the rate at which the compound is eliminated from the body. In women, it has been found to be higher than in men. 5α-DHTG can be detected in human liver and urine samples, as well as other biological fluids such as blood plasma and saliva. This compound can also serve as a corrosion inhibitor for metal surfaces because it binds with metal ions such as copper or iron.
