Methyl 2,4-dihydroxypyrimidine-5-carboxylate is a carboxylic acid derivative that has been shown to inhibit the growth of chronic myelogenous leukemia cells in vitro. It has also been shown to be effective at inhibiting the growth of other types of tumors and leukemia cells. Methyl 2,4-dihydroxypyrimidine-5-carboxylate inhibits cancer cell proliferation by reacting with monoamines, such as serotonin and dopamine. This reaction leads to the formation of cytotoxic products, which kill the cancer cells.
