It is a chaotropic agent that can separate mixtures of proteins, enzymes and other biological molecules by disrupting hydrogen bonds between water molecules. Ecamsule triethanolamine has been shown to be able to increase the rate of thiocyanation reactions with carbonyl compounds, which may lead to the synthesis of new carbohydrates.
