LY-255283 is a basic protein that binds to cytosolic calcium and has been shown to inhibit the inflammatory response. It has been shown to reduce reactive oxygen species (ROS) production in human erythrocytes, suggesting that it may be a therapeutic target for infectious diseases. LY-255283 also inhibits leukotriene synthesis by binding to the adenosine A3 receptor and reduces myocardial infarct size in experimental models of ischemia/reperfusion injury. This drug has also been shown to inhibit cytokine release from macrophages and lymphocytes as well as decrease the level of serum inflammatory markers such as IL-6, IL-1β, and TNF-α.
