It has been shown to have fluorescence properties, which can be used in the study of electrochemistry. 3-(Chloromethyl)-2-hydroxy-5-methyl-benzaldehyde has also been shown to have a high coordination geometry and an electron reduction rate that is three times faster than other compounds with similar structures. This chemical has been shown to inhibit tumour cell lines and is a reaction product of the conversion of 2,2'-dichloroacetophenone by hydrogen chloride.
