Descrição:6-(Methylsulfonyl)-1H-indole is a heterocyclic compound with a six-membered indole ring. It has hydrophilic properties and is soluble in water, alcohols, ethers, chloroform, benzene, and carbon tetrachloride. 6-(Methylsulfonyl)-1H-indole can be used as an anti-inflammatory agent that selectively inhibits cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes COX-2. This compound has been shown to have potent activity against human COX-2 enzyme. 6-(Methylsulfonyl)-1H-indole binds to the active site of COX enzymes by forming hydrogen bonds with amino acid residues and by occupying the hydrophobic pocket of the enzyme. The conformationally constrained nature of this compound may account for its selectivity for COX-2 inhibition over COX-1 inhibition.
