Disiloxane is a silylating reagent that has been used in the synthesis of amines. Disiloxane is an apical ligand that is insoluble in water. Disiloxane has been used for the preparation of chlorides and crystallography. Preparative methods for x-ray crystallography and analytical chemistry have also been developed using disiloxane as a ligand. This compound can be prepared using a preparative method with high yield, which involves heating dioxane with sodium bisulfite followed by treatment with iodine in benzene. The resulting disiloxane can then be purified using vacuum distillation.
