Tris(tert-butoxy)silanol is a model complex that can be used to study hydrogen bonding interactions. It is reactive and has been shown to have functional theory in the form of mesoporous materials. Tris(tert-butoxy)silanol has been shown to have excellent transport properties and has been used to grow carbon nanotubes. This molecule has also been used as a catalyst for linear polymerization reactions, which are useful for the production of polymers such as polyethylene.
