2-Phenyl-3-(dimethylamino)propene nitrile is a compound that can be synthesized by the reaction of hydrazine and acetophenone. This chemical has been shown to exhibit efficient synthesis and regioselectivity in the presence of proton irradiation. The synthesis of this compound is performed by refluxing ethanol with 2-phenyl-3-(dimethylamino)propene nitrile, followed by crystallization with acetic acid. The structure of this compound was determined using x-ray crystallography and X-ray diffraction techniques. The structure of 2-phenyl-3-(dimethylamino)propene nitrile consists of a pyrimidine derivative, which has been found to be active against cancer cells. This compound has also been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria and fungi by interrupting protein synthesis in these organisms.
