- Ethyl 3-Hydroxypyridine-4-Carboxylate
Ethyl 3-hydroxyisonicotinate is an electrophilic reagent that reacts with nucleophiles such as hydroxide ion, water, alcohols and amines. This compound is used to synthesize furopyridines. It can be used to make drugs such as Piroxicam, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug that inhibits the activity of cyclooxygenase (COX) and lipoxygenase (LOX). Ethyl 3-hydroxyisonicotinate can also be used in the preparation of iodinated compounds, where it will react with iodine to form ethyl 3-iodopropionate. This reaction is also called electrophilic iodination.
