Cardamonin is a polyphenolic compound that has been shown to induce apoptosis in cells by binding to the Bcl-2 protein, which regulates programmed cell death. Cardamonin also has anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties. The binding of cardamonin to the Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) inhibits the production of reactive oxygen species and its subsequent induction of inflammatory responses. It also has chemiluminescence activity, which is due to its ability to bind with DNA in a sequence-specific manner. This can be used as a way to detect dna mutations or for the treatment of cancerous cells.
