Informação sobre produto
- (R)-2-Hydroxymethylhexanoic acid
- (2R)-2-(hydroxymethyl)hexanoic acid
(R)-2-(Hydroxymethyl)hexanoic acid is a compound that can be synthesized by debenzylation of (R,S)-1-phenylethanol. It has been found to be an efficient synthesis of an antibacterial agent. The enzyme esterase can be used to hydrolyze the carboxylic acid group in the compound, producing a range of intermediates. The enzyme may be specific for one enantiomer over another, which makes it enantioselective. When hydrogen peroxide is added to the reaction mixture, it reacts with the esterified alcohol to produce peroxide and an esterified alcohol. This reaction can occur because hydrogen peroxide is more reactive than water and has a greater affinity for the substrate.
