The structure of 8-hydroxy-2-oxo-1,2-dihydroquinoline 5'-carbaldehyde can be determined by spectrometric methods. This compound is the product of metabolism of ciprofloxacin and other quinolones. Ciprofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase, leading to inhibition of RNA synthesis and protein synthesis.
