Epirosmanol is a labiate compound extracted from the genus Epilobium. It is a natural product that has been found to have significant cytotoxicity against cultured human lung cancer cells. Epirosmanol is structurally related to 3-o-caffeoylquinic acid, which is also present in the extract. Laboratory studies have shown that epirosmanol exhibits supercritical fluid extraction and chemical ionization response element (CRE) binding properties. CREs are important for regulating gene expression and are found in many different types of cells, including those involved in cancer metabolism. Epirosmanol may be a potential therapeutic agent for metabolic disorders and cancers such as lung cancer.
