Methyl 2-Iodo-3-nitrobenzoate is a reagent that can be used in organic synthesis, including the preparation of esters and phenylacetylene. It has been shown to react with trimethylsilylacetylene and disubstituted acetylenes to form substituted benzoates. This product has been used in experiments to study the dehydratase enzyme, which converts nitro groups into amines. The crystallography of this compound was studied by X-ray diffraction. Methyl 2-Iodo-3-nitrobenzoate is analogous to methyl 2-iodobenzoate.
