It has been proposed as a potential therapeutic agent for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). This compound may be useful for treating IBS because it has been shown to act as an antagonist of the 5HT3 receptor, which is involved in the regulation of visceral pain. 5Chloro-7-methyl-1,3-benzoxazole-2-thiol does not bind to other receptors and does not show any agonist activity.
