6-Ethynyl-4,4-dimethylthiochroman is a new anti-diabetic drug that has been shown to inhibit the enzyme dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPPIV). This enzyme is responsible for the breakdown of certain proteins in the body. By inhibiting this enzyme, 6-ethynyl-4,4-dimethylthiochroman prevents the breakdown of proteins involved in glucose metabolism. This leads to improved insulin sensitivity and a reduction in blood sugar levels. 6-Ethynyl-4,4-dimethylthiochroman also inhibits chloride channels on the cell membrane, which may contribute to its effects on glucose metabolism.
