N-Benzenesulfonyl-7-azaindole is an unsymmetrical molecule that has been used to study the yields of chemical reactions. It is a diarylethene with two possible isomers: (1) N-benzenesulfonyl-7-azaindole and (2) 7,7'-bis(benzenesulfonyl)-1,10-phenanthroline. The compound has been synthesized in crystalline form, and its x-ray diffraction pattern has been studied. The crystal structure of this compound was determined by x-ray diffraction. This molecule can be photoisomerized to the trans isomer in the presence of light.
