Methyl 3-[(2,4-dichlorobenzyl)oxy]-2-thiophenecarboxylate (MTX) is a synthetic compound with antiparasitic activity. MTX inhibits the synthesis of DNA by inhibiting the enzyme DNA polymerase. MTX has been shown to have cytotoxic effects on various cell lines, including human erythrocytes and prostate cancer cells, as well as antimicrobial properties against Mycoplasma pneumoniae, tuberculosis and malaria. MTX has been shown to be an inhibitor molecule for other molecules such as adenosine deaminase, which is used in the treatment of HIV/AIDS.
