2-Chloro-N-[2-oxo-2-(pyrrolidin-1-yl)ethyl]acetamide is a synthetic antibiotic that has been used in the treatment of microbial infections. In vitro studies have shown that this drug inhibits bacterial growth by binding to DNA and RNA. 2-Chloro-N-[2-oxo-2-(pyrrolidin-1-yl)ethyl]acetamide is also active against some viruses and protozoa, including HIV and malaria parasites. This drug binds to ribonucleic acid (RNA) in bacteria and prevents the production of proteins needed for cell division. The chemical structure of 2-Chloro-N-[2-oxo-2-(pyrrolidin-1-yl)ethyl]acetamide is similar to that of erythromycin, which may explain the observed synergistic effects with this drug.
