1'-Hydroxy-2',3'-dehydroestragole is a phytochemical found in the essential oil of various plants, including eugenol. It has been shown to have a number of effects on the cardiovascular system. 1'-Hydroxy-2',3'-dehydroestragole binds to the 5-HT2 receptor and may be involved in regulating blood pressure. This compound has also been shown to reduce primary tumor growth in CD1 mice and is associated with an increase in bone mineral density. These effects may be due to its ability to inhibit both vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and erythropoietin. The effect of 1' -hydroxy-2',3'-dehydroestragole on receptor binding was studied using recombinant cells, which were incubated with this compound for 24 hours, then assayed for changes in serotonin release or cell viability. The results showed that this phytochemical inhibited serotonin release and caused
