It is a crystalline solid that can be obtained through the reaction of 4-aminobenzamide and nitrous acid. 4AI exhibits anticancer activity by inhibiting the growth of cancer cells, which may be due to its ability to inhibit protein synthesis by binding to the ribosomes in these cells. 4AI also binds to sulfoxide groups on proteins, resulting in changes in their conformation and inhibiting DNA replication and repair.
