Veraguensin is a quinone compound that has been shown to be active against Leishmania and protocatechuic acid. Veraguensin is found in the genus Veratrum, which includes plants such as American Hellebore or Indian Pokeweed. Veraguensin has also been shown to have antihypertensive activity, and may serve as a natural compound for the treatment of hypertension. This drug is an antimicrobial agent that inhibits bacterial growth by binding to DNA. Veraguensin has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis in plate tests on rats.
