N-(2-Hydroxyethyl)-9(Z)-hexadecenamide is a reactive molecule that has been shown to cause mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress in biological systems. It inhibits the activity of the enzyme acyl-CoA dehydrogenase, which is involved in the synthesis of fatty acids. N-(2-Hydroxyethyl)-9(Z)-hexadecenamide also causes an increase in hydrogen bonding interactions, leading to cellular toxicity. This compound is also known to have genotoxic effects and may be carcinogenic.
