This compound is chiral and can be used to make materials that are semiconducting. It has a ring structure with a mercapto group on one side and an oxazole group on the other. 2-Pyridin-2-yl-4,5-dihydrooxazole is photopolymerizable and can be made into an optical sensor by incorporating it into a polymer film. It can also be used as a lithography resist or in the preparation of DNA microarrays.
