Coronarin A is a diterpene that has been found to have apoptosis-inducing properties. The chemical structure of coronarin A contains a hydroxyl group and it is the only molecule containing a hydroxyl group in the family of diterpenes. Coronarin A has shown pro-inflammatory cytokine activity and cytotoxicity, which may be due to its ability to induce apoptosis in tumor cells. It also exhibits anti-restenotic effects by inhibiting the growth of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) and reducing VSMC migration. In addition, coronarin A inhibits platelet aggregation and reduces inflammation in animal models of inflammatory diseases.
